This year is the 40th anniversary of the Kips Bay Decorator Show house, but it's only the second time that it is taking place in a completely modern apartment structure ( the Aldyn at 60 Riverside Blvd.). A room with 3 plain, square white walls and one extra large window can be a rather daunting challenge for most;
I see it as a fresh and exciting canvas from which to begin to create. Transforming the walls into a backdrop for our magical fairy tale became the first order of business. Starting with a base of Blush Pink ( from the Aura line of paints from Benjamin Moore) , my extraordinary faux finisher, Gabriel Blanco then applied a second layer using a dry cloth and an iridescent silver glaze.
In order to create even more drama ( as well as architectural interest ) I designed flower murals with diamond accents as an additional layer, and had them painted in strategic places on all 3 walls. They mimic the whimsy of the Odegard rug and give a feeling that the room is actually a "theatre" with the baby Princess's crib starring on center stage.
