Columbus Day is a great way to celebrate discovery and adventure. Although we have a young country it is good to know our history and help our children learn how lucky they are to come from such a diverse land. We can educate our children in so many ways, but design and art are especially great ways because they are visible and tangible.
Through design your children can feel like a part of the history of Columbus Day with nautical themes and decor for their room. Whether through art hanging on the wall depicting the three famous ships that Columbus commanded or with a dreamy ship chandelier they can feel like they are a part of the action and adventure of the great story of Columbus. Also, elements as simple as a pillow with a grand ship on the front are valuable additions to any storytime. Simplicity is the key when designing with themes.
Another great way to change the themes and overall feel of the room is by using different fabrics for window treatments, bedding, and pillows. Some of my favorites include fabrics with ships and nautical prints.
A few small pieces can change the whole space and give it a genuine feel. Children's furniture and your child's bedroom have the potential to spark something different in them and get them excited about history. Celebrate Columbus Day with all of this in mind and it will be a great holiday for you and your family.
