These days, it's becoming more and more difficult to find any thing made within the borders of the United States of America. Outsourcing has become such an integral aspect in our lives that it's practically impossible to imagine the world without it. Where would we even put all these factories? Regardless, Zoya has always appreciated traditional values - even when faced with modern designs. That is to say: many of the items found at Rooms by Zoya B have kept a figurative hold on their "old-world" value, and are almost exclusively made in America.

The BK Modern Collection is just about as contrmporary as Zoya gets. Its sleek aesthetic fits almost any space with a particularly neutral range that is practically unheard of. Most of all these pieces, albeit modern, don't seem apathetic in any way - such that they would fit in with traditional pieces just fine. As Zoya likes to put it: "It's Classically Modern!" 

As with all of Zoya's furnishings, these beautiful pieces are all completely absent of formaldehyde. They're made in California with all natural solid wood, utilizing old world concepts and techniques to truly succeed. The attention to detail is so precice that even every drawer is fitted with full extension under-mount drawer slides that close softly to the touch. Designer Tips: Avoid Clutter With the BK Modern Collection

I've spent the majority of my life in New York City. That is to say: I've spent the majority of my life coming to terms with the expenses of square footage. While flagrant, open spaces are full of amazing design oppurtunities, not everybody is blessed with access to such. For many, it's important to remember how much can be acieved in accommodations that are compact regarding overall capacity. As I discussed the BK Modern Collection's Tempo Dresser/Changer in yesterday's post, I'll be using several pieces from the series as a whole to illustrate the notions mentioned today. You may be thinking "Wow, what an obnoxious promotion!" However, there is veracious relevance. The style of furniture used in creating a home is a highly contributing factor to visual clutter; especially when physical scope is limited.

 

Traditional furniture has character. Zoya has taken this paradigm to heart since the days she spent restoring antiques. It's true, in a sense, especially when vintage pieces are called into question. The ages of any style or items in particular can implicate the terperament of either a former owner, or perhaps the creator of the works themselves. Nonetheless, these eclectic characteristics can and will add clutter when forced to interact with the peronality that your home develops over time. This is the greatest advantage of modern furniture. The minimalistic style allows for a figurative "blank slate" that frees the surrounding space, opening the area up to be filled with whatever you want.

Another paramount concept for expanding marginal areas is calling attention to the ceiling height. Even the smallest of spaces will seem massive should the ceiling height exceed ten feet. It's this exact principle that heralded the Gothic architectural revolution. Their desire for more space and light led to reaching as far as possible vertically. If you're fortunate enough to have such stature readily available, items such as this BK Modern Tempo Armoire, which spans seven feet high, will highlight the latitude across the board. Be that as it may, should your ceilings fall short to some extent, a dainty Dresser or Nightstand may be a more flattering choice.

Sleeping Safe And Sound In A Bunk Bed

Bunk beds are a blessing for many families that have limited bedroom space. Having to double and sometimes triple the number of children in one room makes for very little extra room. Bunk Beds are the perfect solution to multiple sleeping arrangements; however, they are not without serious risks. I implore all my customers to read the guidelines and instructions for proper set up of their bunk beds.

 • Bunk beds should contain a label with the name of the manufacturer. Instructions giving the proper size and thickness of the mattress and containing specific warnings for safe use must also accompany each bunk bed set.

• Bunk beds must have at least two upper bunk guardrails, with at least one rail on each side. Lower bunks with mattress foundations that are 30 inches or less from the floor do not have to have guardrails.

• The guardrail on the side of the bed opposite the ladder must run continuously from one end of the bed to the other. If the guardrail does not attach to an end of the bed, the gap between the end of the guardrail and the nearest end of the bunk bed cannot be greater than 0.22 inches.

• A guardrail on the side of the bed with the ladder does not have to run continuously from end to end, but the distance between either end of the guardrail and the end of the bed nearest to it cannot be greater than 15 inches.

• Guardrails must be attached to the bunk bed with fasteners that you have to release to take the rails off.

 • The space between the lower edge of the guardrail and upper edge of the bed frame must be 3 1/2 inches or less.

• The tops of the guardrails must be no less than 5 inches above the top of the mattress.

• Bunk beds should not have sharp points or edges and should never be painted with lead containing paint.

• Mattresses and/or foundations resting only on ledges need fastened cross wires, or other means of support to help prevent dislodgement, even when beds are used as twin beds.

• Children 6 or under should not be permitted to sleep on upper bunk.

I am so thrilled to be able to bring these safety guidelines to my customers. The more prepared we are as parents and the more precautions we take, the safer our children will be.

Totally Glamorous Celine Crib Bedding

By 6 months (or when your baby is sitting up) the mattress should be at the 3rd level and the crib skirt will puddle on the floor creating a look that always reminds me of old Hollywood glamour. The fitted sheets are made from Swiss Cotton Batiste and are machine washable. The accessories with the bows of Dupioni Silk must be organic dry cleaned. As always, my products are made in America. Super Cute & Cuddly!!! Steiff Did It Again...

Steiff has been in business for over 100 years and this collection of pull-along toys is one of their best products! Each animal is super cute & cuddly. The best part is they can be taken off their wheels for some extra special snuggle time :) .  This concept has been around for a long time, Steiff made their first pull-along animal in 1892. The originals were wheeled around playrooms all over Germany on cast iron wheels, axels with snaps were added later to combine childhood play with movement and playful training of juvenile motor skills.  Clearly now we are seeing how these pull-along animals have become a great toy for children being the best companions to tour the house with or explore anywhere there is something new to see or do.   

2009 Kips Bay Decorator Show House - Dorothy's Chandelier

I think that a big part of making a room Magical is the ability to capture and maintain an audience time after time. Every which way there is something new to be discovered. A great example of this is the "Wizard of Oz Dorothy's room chandelier."  Even with its substantial size, when you enter the room you are enchanted by the custom, one of a kind rug, Toto's silver leafed throne-like fabulous dog bed, the seating area, and the incredable "Wizard of Oz" doll collection. It is not until you reach the bedroom area, turn back, and realize, and I quote "look at the chandelier! It is the hot air ballon!" I love seeing people's reaction! And then they come closer...and now they can see something written on the ceiling..."there's no place like home!"...Ah............that's Magical!!!

2009 Kips Bay Decorator Show House - from Swedish Style to 1940's Retro Magic

One of the challenges was how to transform a classic Swedish style bedside table and dresser from my signature ZoyaB. Collection into 1940's Retro and making it Magical. First, I laquered it into a solid green, representing a shade of the Emerald City from the "Wizard of Oz". Then, by changing classic hardware from antique brass to playful sculptured glass knobs with silver fittings, the furniture began already it's transformation into the Modern world. But, I did not stop there, applying Silver Leaf to the feet and just by leafing one line of the bulbose, added that Modern Retro twist to it, and finally big poppy flower, purple on one bedside table, pink on the other made it Magical.

2009 Kips Bay Decorator Show House - Toto's Dog Bed

“Wizard of Oz” Toto’s dog bed is a very special rendition of ZoyaB. Signature Collection’s Cafenero Bed. Inspired by the bed that belong to a Swedish Baroness in the 18^th century, this bed, I imagined would be in the L. Frank Baum’s “Wizard of Oz” Throne Room at the Emerald City. Silver leafed and upholstered in jewel tones fabric with large buttons of every color in the room, it just going to make you smile  :-)
